Resident Return Visa (RRV) Guide

Which RRV Resident Return Visa you are eligible for depends on your location on time of application and your current circumstances. The table below can be used as a guide.

RRV Visa	Your Location	Resident Return Visa requirements
155 RVV Visa – Valid for 5 year	Inside or outside Australia	Must have been a permanent visa holder and resided in Australia for at least 2 years in the last 5 years.
155 RVV Visa – Valid for 1 year	Australia	You do not meet the 2/5-year residency requirement. You have not been absent for a continuous period of 5 years before applying. You must prove substantial ties to Australia that are beneficial to the country. If absent for more than 5 years, you must also provide compelling reasons for your absence.
155 RVV Visa – Valid for 1 year	Outside Australia	You were an Australian citizen or permanent resident at some point in the last 10 years. You do not meet the 2/5-year residency requirement. You have not been absent for a continuous period of 5 years before applying. You must prove substantial ties to Australia. If absent for more than 5 years, you must also provide compelling reasons for your absence.
157 RVV visa – Valid for 3 months	In or Outside Australia	Can apply from inside or outside Australia. You have been in Australia for at least 1 day but less than 2 years in the last 5 years as a permanent visa holder. You must have compelling reasons for your last departure from Australia. If you have been outside Australia for more than 3 continuous months before lodging your application, you must also provide compelling reasons for your absence.
